Circularity as a Starting Point
In the beginning of 2023, the massive log frame of the client’s childhood home was carefully dismantled, documented, and prepared for reuse. Each timber, over a century old, reflects the craftsmanship of its time and became the foundation for the new design. The salvaged logs were transported to a new site set within a scenic ridge landscape, where the structure was reassembled and adapted for contemporary living.
Designed as an all-season holiday home, the cabin provides both comfort and a strong connection to its natural surroundings. The original log frame determined much of the spatial organization — its rhythm and proportions guided the layout, resulting in a home that feels both rooted in tradition and attuned to modern needs.
The architecture combines traditional log-building techniques with contemporary construction methods and detailing. Inside, a restrained material palette and modern amenities complement the warmth and texture of the aged timber. The home includes living-dining room, two bedrooms and a loft with long views over the surrounding landscape.
Balancing heritage and modern comfort, the project reflects a sustainable approach: reusing existing materials, building with care, and creating a place designed to age gracefully over time.
