Shaped by the Site
Cabin Onki is a three-generation holiday retreat situated in a scenic coastal landscape in Kymenlaakso. The building is placed on the highest point of the site and organized as a T-shaped volume. This form arises directly from the spatial logic of the cabin and creates a series of outdoor areas with distinct atmospheres, shaped by views toward the sea and the movement of the sun.
The existing buildings and particularly the original fisherman’s cottage defines the character of the place and have strongly influenced the form and exterior architecture of the new cabin. The aim has been to design a contemporary building that fits naturally into the context while meeting the versatile and modern needs.
Through its scale, materials, and roof form, Cabin Onki continues the architectural language of the site while offering flexible and generous spaces for family life. It is designed as a a new chapter in the long history of the place: durable, adaptable, and contextually grounded addition to the shoreline landscape.
